Team Supercars struggle while Lites dominate.

Olsbergs MSE is fighting a tight championship battle as the Red Bull Global Rallycross season heads into its final three rounds of the year.

Despite a rough doubleheader weekend in Los Angeles, the Supercars team continues to close the gap to the points leader. "A lot happened with the championship in this doubleheader and I expect it will be the same in the next," said Sebastian Eriksson, driver of the Red Bull / Bluebeam Ford Fiesta ST. "At each of the doubleheaders so far this year we've seen big changes in the points. At the next one I'm hoping it will be to our advantage."

After two challenging races this weekend, Eriksson is third in the title chase -- 36 points behind leader Ken Block. Teammate Joni Wiman is eighth.

The series returned this year to the Port of Los Angeles venue this year where a brand new crossover track configuration transformed the Pier 46 lot into a tight racing course.

The course design didn't favor the Olsbergs MSE cars and neither driver found the pace for a podium result in Los Angeles. Eriksson missed the final in the first race of the weekend, while Wiman was ninth. On Saturday, both Eriksson and Wiman battled into the final to finish eighth and ninth.

But with 112 points up for grabs in the next doubleheader, defending champion Wiman is optimistic. "I definitely feel like we should be on the pace for two strong results in Barbados," said Wiman. "We had the pace to win there last year and we're excited about going back. The Bushy Park Circuit suits us."

While the team's Supercar drivers didn't get the results they wanted in Los Angeles, Olsbergs MSE Lites drivers Austin Cindric and Oliver Eriksson had a winning weekend. Eriksson won on Saturday and finished third on Sunday, while teammate Cindric followed up Saturday's runner-up result with a Sunday win. Cindric now leads the Lites championship -- in a tie for points with rival Miles Maroney -- and Eriksson is just five points back.

"It was an awesome finish to cap off a great weekend," said Cindric on Sunday. "It's definitely going to be tight for the rest of the season and I'm looking forward to the next rounds."

Olsbergs MSE's Red Bull Global Rallycross squad makes its return to the Bushy Park Circuit in Barbados October 3-4, with live coverage airing on NBC. Before then, Olsbergs MSE's FIA World Rallycross drivers Reinis Nitišs and Andreas Bakkerud will travel to Spain to appear at World RX of Barcelona September 18-20.
