For the second year in a row, Olsbergs MSE teammates swept a pair of GRC Lites races held at the Port of Los Angeles. Oliver Eriksson emulated his brother Kevin by winning the Saturday main event, while Austin Cindric mirrored fellow American driver Mitchell DeJong and took home Sunday’s checkered flag.

SATURDAY RECAP: Though the field was set by points, Alex Keyes asserted himself as a force to be reckoned with by winning both of his Saturday heats, but second-round heat winner Oliver Eriksson managed to grab the lead in a wild start that saw Alejandro Fernandez bounce into Keyes, who then sent Tanner Whitten into the wall. Undeterred, Keyes spent the remainder of the 10-lap final battling with Eriksson, attempting to chase down the win.

The California resident finally caught the Swede on the final lap, leading to a wheel-to-wheel battle that Eriksson eventually muscled through. Behind them, Austin Cindric saved his Kobalt Tools Joker Lap for the final corner, squeezing past Keyes for second place in a photo finish to give Olsbergs MSE a 1-2 result.

SUNDAY RECAP: Aiming to reclaim the points lead, Cindric came hot out of the gate on Sunday, earning the pole and winning both of his heats before taking off into the lead in the final. Dreyer & Reinbold Racing teammates Miles Maroney and Keyes settled into second and third behind him, before Keyes suffered a late-race mishap that dropped him to ninth in the order.

Eriksson, Saturday’s winner but behind in the running order after a first-round spin in the heats, inherited third place, while Whitten helped undo some of the damage on Saturday by holding down fourth. In only his third career GRC Lites start, Conner Martell grabbed fifth place for Rhys Millen Racing, his best result so far.

QUOTES: A selection of quotes from Sunday’s Red Bull Global Rallycross Los Angeles (II) presented by Subaru Tecnica International, the ninth round of the 2015 GRC Lites season:

Austin Cindric, #77 Olsbergs MSE GRC Lites: “Today, I knew what I needed to do after following Oliver all day yesterday. I wanted it even more than I did yesterday, so I came out smooth and turned consistent laps while everyone battled behind me. I have to thank Andreas at Olsbergs MSE—he gave me the opportunity to run for him this year—and all the guys on the Lites program. It’s a group effort, it’s a family effort, and it’s cool to be a part of it.”

Miles Maroney, #24 Dreyer & Reinbold Racing GRC Lites: “We can’t let the championship dominate our thoughts. We’ve still got to go out and win races. If we end up in the championship fight at the end in Las Vegas, that’s even better.”

Oliver Eriksson, #16 Olsbergs MSE GRC Lites: “Everyone went faster today. I struggled a bit in the first heat, so it didn’t go so well in the beginning. But I couldn’t be happier to be up in the podium today.”
