Ole Christian Veiby is offensive ahead of Rally Finland: – I'm aiming for victory.
Ole Christian Veiby has traveled to the Finnish WRC round full of confidence after winning Rally Poland. "The goal is to win in Finland as well" he said.
The Norwegian youngster surprised everyone when he won the WRC2 class at Rally Poland in an impressive way. This has given his confidence a real boost and the 21-year-old cannot deny that his target is to repeat the success.
"Of course I'm coming here full of confidence. To prepare for Rally Finland, I recently participated at Autoglym Ralli in Finland. Many of my toughest competitors at the upcoming WRC round also participated and I cashed in on even more confidence by winning the rally - something that hasn't exactly lowered my expectation for Rally Finland" he said.
Ole and his co-driver Stig Rune Skjærmoen feel that they are well prepared after completing Autoglym Ralli and a good test last Saturday in their Skoda Fabia R5. They have many full speed kilometers behind them and have a strong second place in the overall WRC2 classification.
"This is my third time at Rally Finland and I have to say that it is one of my favorite rounds. Rally Poland and Rally Finland are the fastest events in the WRC, although the two rallies are pretty different" he said.
The Finnish round is known for its characteristic roads, which are wide, fast, has many crests, jumps and corners. This is challenging and good pacenotes are crucial to avoid literally ending up in the forest.
"I would like to say that Rally Finland is the WRC round where it's the most important to have good pacenotes. There are so many corners after crests and jumps that you can't see and then you have to trust that the pacenotes are correct. It's an incredibly fun rally to drive" said Ole.
The rally talent feels that he knows the stages he has driven before, but this year the event also contains some new stages.
"We are offensive and there is no doubt that we're aiming for the win. I have a great feeling ahead of the event" he said.
His car is run by Finnish team Prinsport Racing and it means a lot for the team to do well on home turf.
"The joy when I won the JWRC category in Finland last year was indescribable. A victory means so much to the team and that motivates me to do extra well here" said Ole Christian Veiby.
