This weekend, the third season of the FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy will begin, with the first round taking place in Portugal.
Jēkabpils native Reinis Nitišs is among the participants, having joined the German Münnich Motorsport for this year, and will be driving the freshly built Seat Ibiza RX Supercar.
This will be the fourth career start in the Montalegre rallycross circuit for Reinis Nitišs. On his debut, in 2013, he competed in the Super1600 class and concluded the event in fourth place. Having moved up to the Supercar class for the next two events, he finished third in 2014 and eleventh in 2015.
“This was a long and eventful winter, and I will begin this season from a nearly blank slate, with only the experience from the last few seasons to fall back on. I am with a new team, have a new teammate and will be racing a completely new race car – Seat Ibiza RX. I have also completely change the physical and mental preparation process, for which I would like to thank my coach and mentor, the three time world sidecarcross champion Kaspars Stupelis!
Currently, the team “mechanism” has a lot new of “gears” and everyone at Münnich Motorsport is looking forward to the results of their hard work. The preseason testing shows that we have definitely moved in the right direction over the winter, and gives reason to be optimistic before the first event.
Sébastien Loeb and Ken Block have joined the championship this year, and Jānis Baumanis will also contest all the Supercar events. That just shows the ever-increasing popularity of rallycross and means that the goal of reaching finals in each event has gotten that much more difficult.
If you are not going to Portugal this weekend, but to Latvia instead, remember to tune in the Lattelecom channel Best4Sport, which will be providing live broadcasts from all the championship round this year!” says Reinis Nitišs.
Reinis Nitišs participation in the FIA World Rallycross Championship is possible thanks to the support provided by Lattelecom, Ošukalns, and Sonora, as well as the city of Jēkabpils, Autobrava, Eibe-L, Hertz, Latvijas Gāze, OK Būvmateriāli, RA EVENTS, and SMS Credit. Informativsupport provided by DELFI, and Zebra.
All Lattelecom customers in Latvia will be able to watch every FIA World Rallycross Championship event live on Best4Sport TV. Lattelecom is a supporter of the Neste World RX of Latvia (Round 10, October 1-2, 2016) and will provide modern technologies at the event venue. In addition to that, Lattelecom also supports Reinis Nitišs, who will represent Münnich Motorsport in the 2016 FIA World Rallycross Championship.
