Today (Saturday), qualifying 3 and 4 took place in Hockenheim, as part of round two of the FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy.

Jēkabpils native Reinis Nitišs had an unlucky day – he had to retire from the day’s first qualifying after an accident, and his car stalled at the start of the second qualifying due to an issue with the clutch.Nitišs was thirteenth overall after qualifying, meaning that he does not advance to the semi-finals in Hockenheim. Round two will conclude tomorrow with the semi-finals and finals.

Day two of the event also took place in sunny and warm conditions, but, unfortunately, Reinis Nitišs’ result today was not good enough to maintain his course to the semi-final, after seemingly being in a very safe position after day one. Reinis Nitišs was just eighteenth in qualifying 3 and fifteenth in qualifying 4, which prevented him from advancing to the semi-finals.

“Rallycross is a contact sport and, unfortunately for me, today it cost me dearly – I damaged the steering mechanism after contact with Kevin Eriksson in qualifying 3 and was not even able to reach the finish.

There was uncharacteristically little time before qualifying 4 in Hockenheim, but ALL-INKL.com Münnich Motorsport did a fantastic job to get the car ready in time. However, an issue with the clutch popped up only after lining up on the start line, so it was too late to fix it. Because of this, the car stalled at the start, and I was not able to gain back all the lost time during the race.

Day one of the event clearly showed that the Seat Ibiza RX has great potential, and that we are moving in the right direction to make it possible to fight for the top positions in the future. However, we are not yet at a point where we can overcome two unlucky breaks on the same race weekend!” says Reinis Nitišs after the event.

The fellow Latvian Supercar driver Jānis Baumanis had another great showing today, posting the fourth (Q3) and eighth (Q4) fastest times, which put him in fourth place overall after qualifying. Jānis will take part in the semi-final tomorrow.
