Petter Solberg endured a tough World RX action in Latvia this weekend – but typically, the triple FIA World Champion found positives, notably the exceptional organisation of the event itself.

Reigning FIA World Rallycross Champion Solberg failed to make the semi-final of a World RX round for the first time in 35 races after a troublesome run through the qualifying heats.

“It goes without saying, this result was not what we wanted from our first ever race in Latvia,” said Solberg. “But we move on from this and look forward to the next round in Germany.

“What I think it’s so important to say and to talk about here is the effort which has gone into making World RX of Latvia, in my opinion, one of the best rounds of the championship ever.

“From the moment we arrived here in Latvia, everything has been perfect from an organisational point of view. The track is one of the best we have raced on and it’s been really fantastic to see what can be achieved when you have a team of really committed people behind an event.

“And it’s not just the team of organisers, people came from all over Latvia to this event. Those people included President Raimonds Vējonis and Prime Minister Maris Kucinskis – they were both interested to watch. I must say, it was a huge honour and the highlight of my weekend when they came over to the PSRX team to meet and talk to us. They were both great, so interested in what we were doing, they were definitely my kind of President and Prime Minister!”

The PSRX race weekend

Q1 – 5th  (position in the standings after qualifying races)
Sensible start to the race weekend. No dramas, fifth quickest and everything under control.

Q2 – 22nd
Disqualified for the first time ever after an on-track incident with another competitor.

Q3 – 21st
Leads the race comfortably early on, but loses vision when the corner of the windscreen mists up and hits the tyre barrier.

Q4 – 19th
Started fourth and tried to make a move on a couple of drivers, but it wasn’t to be this time.

Next time out: World RX of Estering (October 14-16)
Petter has a strong record at the Buxtehude track, winning in 2014 and finishing second last year. It’s a repeat of that victory from two years ago that the team’s chasing in a fortnight’s time.
